4 April 1968 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for A. C. Stiff, 64, Rochester, were held March 30 at the Rochester Methodist church with the Rev. James Lusher and Gordon Smith officiating. Burial was in the Rochester cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norman Ford Jr., Dwain Ford, Jerry and Keith Wood, James Emerson and Marlin Christian. Mrs. Jerry Wood and Mrs. Hazel Nordyke were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Max Phelps was organist.

Mr. Stiff died March 27 in Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

The son of James William and Emma Louise Borschel Stiff, he was born at Clarence Nov. 17, 1903. He was married to Elsie Mae Christian at the Methodist church in Tipton Feb. 24, 1926.

A retired employee of Cedar county, he was a lifelong resident of Rochester. He was a member of the Moose lodge in Tipton.

He is survived by his wife; 4 sons, Dale, James, Bill and Donald Dean, all of Tipton, a daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Leal) Slach, West Branch; 14 grandchildren and 3 sisters, Mrs. Clara Linn and Mrs. Hiram (Dorothy) Long, both of Tipton and Mrs. Irene Carey, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, a brother and a sister.
