Final rites for Charles M. Harmsen, 80, were held April 6 at the Dye funeral home with the Rev. I. S. Hayenga officiating. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donald J. Maher, Delmar L. Klahn, Larry Hostler, Robert, Calvin and Richard Harmsen. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Harmsen died April 4 at his home at 908 Lynn street, Tipton.

The son of Ferdinand and Amelia Grage Harmsen, he was born in Chicago, Ill. Dec. 18, 1887 and was educated in the Chicago schools until he was 13, when the family moved to Cedar county where he continued his education in the Inland township schools.

He was married to Clara Klahn Jan. 21, 1914. He farmed in Inland township until 1940 when he moved to Red Oak township, where he continued farming until 1950, when he retired and moved to Tipton.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Harold, Tipton and Alvin, Bennett; a sister, Mrs. Helen Kahler, Tipton; 3 brothers, Edwin, Moscow, and Herbert and Harry, Davenport; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes.
