Funeral services for Melvin R. Vincent, 63, Downey, were held March 19 at the Downey Baptist church with burial in Shawver cemetery near Cedar Bluff. Mr. Vincent died March 17 at an Iowa City hospital following a 4-month illness.

Mr. Vincent was born June 18, 1903, on a farm near Centerdale, the son of John D. and Ida Heathman Vincent. On March 4, 1926, in Dubuque, he married Lucille Shawver.

He was employed as a member of the custodial department at University hospitals for several years and retired in October, 1966, due to ill health.

Survivors include his widow; 3 sons, Richard, Cedar Rapids; John R., Midland, Tex., and Donald, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Sue Wolfer of Phillmore, N.Y.; a half-brother, Everett Vincent, and a half-sister, Mrs. Charles Trafford, both of West Branch, and 4 grandchildren.
