Funeral services for Ben Tholen, 70, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Nov. 17) at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Bennett, with the Rev. Paul Mueller officiating. Pallbearers will be David Henderson, Raymond Fell, Walter Moeller, Ed Parsons, Robert Marks and Herbert Christensen.

Mrs. Carl Kohrt is vocalist and Curtis Schroeder organist. Mrs. David Henderson, Mrs. Robert Marks and Mrs. Herbert Christensen will be in charge of flowers.

Mr. Tholen died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, Nov. 14, following a lingering illness.

Ben Janssen Tholen, son of Berndt and Hiemke Marie Cordes Tholen was born at Mueggernkrug, Germany Nov. 7, 1896. He was educated in the Mueggenkrug German schools and came to the United States as a young man.

He was married to Anni Moenck Feb. 18, 1925 at the Wayne Center Zion Lutheran church.

Mr. Tholen farmed in the Tipton-Bennett area for many years.

He is survived by his wife, 4 sons, Harold, Council Bluffs; Herbert, Durant; and Bernhardt and John, at home; 4 daughters, Mrs. William (Dorothea) Ede, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Robert (Elnora) Husmann, Center Junction; Mrs. Melvin (Annetta) Schirm and Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Jennings, both of Cedar Rapids.

Four sisters, Mrs. Henry (Lisa) Theilen and Mrs. George (Theresa) Stutt, both of Anamosa; Mrs. John (Gesine) Knutson, Aurora and a sister, Etta, living in Germany; 2 brothers, Gerd, Onslow and Johannes, Heidmuehle, Germany and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, 3 brothers and a daughter in infancy.
