Willard S. Maxson, 97, a lifelong resident of West Branch and Springdale vicinities, died June 4.

Born Aug. 15, 1868, in West Liberty the son of Thaddiaus and Lydia Yates Maxson. He was married to Martha Fawcett Sept. 1, 1898. He operated a country store in Springdale for many years, moving to West Branch in 1916 where he was cashier at the First State bank. He retired in 1942.

Mr. Maxson was a member of the official board of the West Branch Methodist church for many years and also taught Sunday school.

Survivors include his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Elsie Boatman of Honolulu.

Services were June 8 at 2 p.m. in the West Branch Methodist church. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
