Richard Moon, 66, a native of Clarence and a resident of Tipton for many years, died Feb. 26 at Hannibal, Mo. after being injured in an auto accident almost 2 weeks before. His wife, Gladys, 67, also hurt in the accident, is recovering in a Hannibal hospital.

Moon was driving north of U.S. Highway 61 when his car struck the rear of a car driven by a 17-year-old Palmyra, Mo., youth who had stopped to make a turn, according to Missouri Highway patrolman.

Moon's car skidded across the highway and hit another car head-on. He received a fractured right hip and a dislocated left shoulder. Mrs. Moon received chest injuries, a fractured jaw and fractures of both ankles.

Moon was born at Clarence and graduated from Tipton high school. In 1942 he married the former Gladys Willcutt.

He served in the Marines during World War I and, early in World War II, he began work for the Rock Island Arsenal where he was employed at the time of his death. He had lived in Bettendorf for many years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 26 at Davenport, the Masonic and Moose Lodges at Tipton, and an honorary member of the Tipton Fire Department.

Surviving are the wife; 6 children: Richard Jr., Tipton; Master Sgt. Robert, Mexico, Mo., Chief Petty Officer Randall, Norfolk, Va., Gerrold, Yuma, Ariz., Mrs. Thomas Cordima, Cambridge, Mass., and Marilyn, New Market, Va.
