Funeral services for Gustav (Gus) Strunk, 69, were held Feb. 6 at United Church of Christ in Lowden, following a prayer service in the Chapman Funeral home in Clarence, with the Rev. Arthur Tinge officiating.

Pallbearers were Melvin Schade, Lloyd Wulf, Hugo Meyer, Keith Reeves, Henry Herman and Norman Meier. Mrs. Walter Brendes and Mrs. Floyd Hansen sang, accompanied by Virginia Meyer at the organ. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery. Mrs. Gus Meier and Irma Herman had charge of flowers.

Mr. Strunk died Feb. 3 in his home west of Lowden following a lingering illness.

The son of Peter and Anna Thumann Strunk, he was born Oct. 21, 1895 in Odesheim, Germany. He came to the United States as a small child and grew up in the Lowden and Durant vicinity.

He attended the rural schools of Cedar and Muscatine county. Dec. 17, 1919, he was married to Wilhelmina Schade. They lived in the Lowden area for many years. He was a mechanic for H. D. Kemmanns & Sons garage.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Elmer, Bennett; 3 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Amandas and Erwin, Durant and Emil, Jansen, Nebr. and a sister, Mrs. William (Meta) Schade, Lowden. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
