Funeral services for Mrs. William Herbst, 68, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Barker funeral home in West Branch with the Rev. Charles F. Haigh officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Pallbearers were LaVerne and Gene Herbst, Frank, Richard, Paul and John Krob.

Mrs. Herbst died about 10 p.m. Dec. 18 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Carrie, daughter of James and Mary Fredericks Stout, was born July 12, 1896 in Cedar county. She was married to Orville H. Wright in Tipton Feb. 14, 1920.

She was later married to William Herbst. She was a member of the Christian faith and the Moose Auxiliary. For many years she was correspondent for the Tipton Newspapers in the Cedar Bluff area.

She is survived by her husband, a brother, Elmer Stout, Tipton, 2 sisters, Zona Stout and Mrs. Nellie Hill, both of Tipton; a stepson, Laverne Herbst, Lisbon; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Maguerite Krob, Mechanicsville.
