Funeral services for Earl James Baker, 52, were held at St. Mary's church Dec. 1, with the Rev. G. A. Lillis in charge. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery at Cedar Valley. The Tipton post of the American Legion conducted military rites at the graveside. The rosary was recited at the Sheets and Son funeral home Nov. 30.

Pallbearers were John, Paul and Hubert Lynch, Frank and Paul Fritzpatrick and Ralph Zousel. Mr. and Mrs. Reno Droll were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Baker died suddenly early Sunday morning at his home in Tipton, following a heart attack.

The son of Fredrick and Margaret Murphy Baker, he was born Dec. 25, 1911 at Cedar Valley and was educated in the rural schools of the county. He worked as a laborer most of his life in the Tipton area and was employed at a saw mill east of Tipton at the time of his death. He never married.

He served in the army in World War II for more than 3 years as a private first class. He entered the service March 3, 1942 at Fort Des Moines and was discharged Oct. 28, 1945. He served in 3 campaigns in Europe: Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland-Central Europe. He was a member of the Garey-Whalen post of the American Legion in Tipton.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Baker, Tipton; 5 sisters, Mrs. Agnes Driscoll and Mrs. Paney (Loretta) Hylton, Tipton; Mrs. Jerry (Alice) Mathias, and Mrs. Charles (Tresa) Mathias, Muscatine and Cecilia Baker, Cedar Rapids, 18 nieces and nephews and a uncle, Frank Baker.

He was preceded in death by his father.
