December 3, 1964 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Dorothea Laird, 68, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home Nov. 28, with the Rev. Harold Gillaspie officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Rismiller, Robert Reeve, Lance Schilling, M. P. Reed, Harley Moreland and M. G. Gesme. Mrs. Jack Macklin was vocalist and Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Max Donahue and Mrs. Marie Frederick were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Laird died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Nov. 24 after a short illness.

The daughter of Henry and Mary Pewe Goettsch, she was born near Grand Mound and educated in the Clinton schools. She was married to George Laird at Lancaster, Mo., May 15, 1938. She was baptized a Lutheran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary.

She lived in New Liberty 15 years before moving to Tipton about 25 years ago. She was a cook at the Minute Cafe for several years.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Maxine) Meiers, Tipton; Mrs. Earl (Nancy) Adams, Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Robert Kelding, Davenport; 2 sisters, Mrs. George (Alma) Baldwin, and Mrs. William J. (Edna) Bennett, Clinton; 2 brothers, Walter and Albert Goettsch, Clinton, 12 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
