Funeral services for Julius W. Freese, 67, were held April 24 in Zion United Church of Christ at Lowden following a prayer service in the family home. The Rev. Robert MacDanel was in charge.
Pallbearers were Walter LaFrenz, Lewis Strackbein, Louis Stolte, Paul Wenndt, A. L. Mensing and Everette Kruckenberg. Mrs. Walter Brendes and Mrs. Floyd Hansen sang and Virginia Meyer was organist. Burial was in the Van Horne cemetery with Lillis-Deerberg post of the American Legion in charge of graveside services. Mrs. L. H. Stolte and Mrs. Paul Nordmeyer had charge of flowers.
Mr. Freese died April 22 at his home in Lowden, following a short illness.
The son of Fred and Sophie Woebking Freese, he was born Nov. 19, 1896 near Wheatland. He attended rural schools and was married to Edna Richmann of Lowden Jan. 1, 1924. They farmed southwest of Lowden until 1938 when they moved onto an acreage on the south edge of Lowden where they operated a dairy.
Mr. Freese was a life-long member of Zion United Church of Christ, where he served as a member of the church council and for the past 3 years was custodian of the church. He is a veteran of World War I.
He is survived by his widow, 4 brothers, Henry and Herbert, Lowden, Alfred, Clarence, and Emil, Cedar Rapids; 2 sisters, Elsie Freese and Mrs. Gerald (Malinda) Kemmann, both of Lowden. He was preceded in death by a brother and 4 sisters.
