Funeral services for Maurice A. Johnston, 55, will be held at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, with the Rev. Raymon Ferguson in charge. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial cemetery at Cedar Rapids.
Pallbearers will be Joe Shima, Floyd Becker, Jack Cahill, Guy Mitchell, Howard Hamilton and Lloyd Andre. Mrs. Arnold Swan will be organist. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gaul, Bernard Kotz and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gade will be in charge of flowers.
Mr. Johnston died of a heart attack while doing his chores at his farm 5 miles west of Tipton late Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 25. He had been in good health until the time of his death.
The son of Charles A. and Inez Miller Johnston, he was born in Lisbon, Feb. 7, 1909. He was married to Annabelle Dorothy McQuown at Vinton, Sept. 26, 1929.
Mr. Johnston had been a farmer in Center township for 28 years and was active in the National Farmers Organization, serving as its president in Cedar county and was vice-president at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife; 5 daughters: Mrs. Lyle (Maureen) McQuillen, Bennett; Mrs. Al (Joanne) Kelly, Central City; Mrs. Norman (Marilyn) Kotz, Bennett; Mrs. Kenneth (Carolyn) Herring, Bennett; Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) Gade, Tipton; and a son, Robert, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
Also surviving are his father, C. A. Johnston, Lisbon; a brother, Dale, Lisbon; 2 sisters, Mrs. Roland Kerslake, Lisbon, and Mrs. Elmer Pratt, Denver, Colo., and 16 grandchildren.
