Funeral services for D. Louis Powers, former Tipton grocery operator, were held Jan. 8 at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Anamosa. Mr. Powers died Jan. 4 at his home.

A native of the Anamosa area, he lived in Cedar Rapids for many years and was a salesman for John Blaul Sons, wholesale grocers. He operated a grocery store in the location now occupied by Superior Dairy for several years, selling to Wayne Stone about 10 years ago. Stone later built the building now occupied by the Tipton Super Market.

After leaving Tipton, Powers was employed at the Iowa State reformatory until he retired 5 years ago.

He was married to Alfreda Gorman Sept. 20, 1922. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, the Rev. Thomas Powers, St. Mary's, Kans.; Robert, a teacher at Campion academy, Prairie due Chien, Wis., both member of the Society of Jesus; Daniel, Washington, D.C. and a daughter, Mrs. E. N. Becker, Long Beach, Calif., 3 sisters, a brother and 5 grandchildren.
