Funeral services for Harry L. Methven, 86, were held Jan. 6 at the Tipton Methodist church with the Rev. A. C. Long in charge.

Pallbearers were Oscar Glick, Raymond Eilers, Donald Reeder Sr., DeWayne Ailey, Frank Walton and Donald Armstrong Jr. Mrs. Wendell Willer was vocalist and Mrs. C. C. Crawford organist.

Mr. Methven died at his home in Tipton Jan. 4 after a short illness. He had been in ill health for about 2 months.

The son of Angles and Mary Mower Methven, he was born Sept. 12, 1875 in Harrisburg, Penn. and attended school in Jacksonville, Penn. He worked on farms in that area until 1898 when he came to Cedar county.

He was married to Bertha G. Cashman in the Methodist church at Clarence, April 5, 1900. They began farming near Clarence in 1901, later purchasing a farm in Red Oak township. They retired from farming in 1937 and moved to Tipton.

Mr. Methven was a member of the Methodist church and was serving on the board of stewards at the time of his death. He served as a Cedar county supervisor from Jan. 1, 1931 to Dec. 31, 1936, and was elected from the second (Mechanicsville) district. He was a member of the Cedar County Selective Service board from 1943 to 1947.

He was also active in the Cedar county Farm Bureau and served on the board of directors. He was also a bank director.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Ira DeWitt, Cedar Rapids, 2 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Grant.
