26 December 1963 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for James Henry Compton, 65, Bennett, were held at 10 a.m. Dec. 21, at St. Mary's church in Tipton with the Rev. G. A. Lillis in charge. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.

Pallbearers were Craig Dean, John Compton, Robert and James Bonne, and Robert and William Suchomel.

Mr. Compton died in his sleep of a heart attack at 4 a.m. Dec. 19 at his farm home near Tipton.

The son of James T. and Mary Shinnix Compton, he was born July 24, 1898, near Ivesdale, Ill. He was married to Estelle Wagner in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 16, 1922.

He had farmed 2 miles north and one mile east of Bennett for 17 years. He was a member of St. Mary's church of Tipton.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Gene, Durant; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Sonneville, Moline, Ill.; a brother, Charles, Rock Island, Ill.; 3 sisters, Nelle Compton, Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs. Emil DeMoon and Mrs. Roy Bonne, Moline, Ill., and 6 grandchildren.
