Funeral services for Gustav Adolph Schlichting, 78, were held Dec. 20 at Peace United Church of Christ in Bennett with the Rev. Robert C. Ahrendt officiating. Burial was in Inland cemetery. The Sheets and Dahn funeral home was in charge.

Pallbearers were Donald Juchter, Gus Schepers, Walter Popp, Bernhardt Stuehm, W. C. Wright and Jake Christiansen. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Riedesel Jr., were vocalists, and Mrs. Martin Juchter, Mrs. W. C. Wright, Mrs. Walter Popp and Mrs. Bernhardt Stuehm were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Schlichting died Dec. 18 at Mercy hospital in Davenport after an extended illness.

The son of Jacob and Anna Martens Schlichting, he was born March 5, 1885, in Ketelsbuttal Holst, Germany. He attended school in Germany, spent 2 years in the German army, and was married to Bertha Soth in Germany April 23, 1909.

They came to the United States in 1912 and lived in Grand Mound until 1921 when they moved to a farm in the Bennett area. He farmed for many years, specializing in the raising of Hampshire hogs.

Mr. Schlichting was a member of the Peace church in Bennett.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Arnold, Beloit, Wis.; a grandson, Howard, Beloit, Wisc.; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Claus, Milan, Ill., and Richard, living in Germany; 2 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Lange, Stanwood, and Mrs. Emma Boden, St. Cloud, Minn., and 2 half-brothers, Hugo and Otto, living in Germany.
