Carl Phelps, 75, a resident of West Liberty for 2 years, died suddenly at his home at 4:45 p.m. Aug. 29.

Funeral services were Sept. 2 at the Snider funeral home in West Liberty, with the Rev. Dale Williams of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Springdale cemetery.

He was born Dec. 7, 1887, in Cedar county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Phelps. He was married to Zula Anderson July 29, 1909 in Tipton.

A retired farmer, Mr. Phelps was a former resident of West Branch.

Surviving are his wife; 3 sons, Carl H., Cedar Rapids; Van. B., West Branch, and James L., Sun Valley, Calif.; 5 daughters, Mrs. Bertha Zahn, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Jessie Fuess, Tipton; Mrs. Gwen Baldwin, West Liberty; and Mrs. Leota Kimberling and Mrs. Daisy Hynek, both of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are a brother, James, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Edith Anderson, Moorcraft, Wyo.; 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.
