Funeral services for Effie Ilene Gruwell, a resident of Iowa City in recent years, were held July 25 at the Beckman funeral home at 2 p.m. with Mrs. Taylor Guthrie officiating. Burial was in West Branch cemetery. Miss Gruwell died in Mercy hospital, Iowa City July 22 following a short illness.

She was a member of the West Branch area, the daughter of W. T. and Nancy Bolon Gruwell. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked with Dr. W. N. Moore for many years, later going to Oakdale and Iowa City. She was a member of the West Branch Friends church.

Surviving are one brother, Roy, Iowa City; 2 sisters, Laura Belszing of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Gertrude Gillboe, Pontiac, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and a brother.
