Rita Mariam May, 81, of 1948 B. Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, IA died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in her home from heart failure. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, November 17, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Rita was born June 18, 1922 in Waterloo Township, Allamakee County the daughter of Joseph G. and Rose (Duffy) Schulte. She married Gerald May on June 30, 1947 in Waukon, Rita was a rural school teacher before her marriage. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Rita found much joy in her neighbors, friends and family.

Survivors are her husband, Gerald; two daughters Linda Mae Fitgerald of Cedar Falls and Janice (John) Chrystal of Center Point; three sons Richard (Jeanne) of Phoenic, AZ, Steven (Kelly)of Minnetonka, MN and Jeffrey of Cedar Rapids; a brother Leon (Shirley) Schulte of Waukon; four sisters: Aileen Hammel of Cresco; Adele Howe of Waukon; Madonna Blocker of Marian and Karen (Wayne) Hammel of Cedar Rapids; nine grand children and one great grandchild.

Rita was preceded in death by four sisters: Lorraine Monserud, Blanche McClain, Joan Troendle and a stillborn sister; three brothers: Harold Donald and J. Dale Schulte.
