Funeral services for Elmer Thomas, 61, Downey, were held May 27 at the Downey Baptist church. He died May 24 at an Iowa City hospital.

The son of Fred and Mary Soukup Thomas, he was born Nov. 18, 1901 in Lone Tree and farmed in the Downey area 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Emma Vinkuls; 2 daughters, Mary Ann, at home and Mrs. Max Landers, Ft. Dodge; a son, Duane, Atalissa; 6 brothers, Fred, David and Vernon, Iowa City; John, Riverside; Gilbert, Moline, Ill., and Walter in South Dakota and 6 sisters, Mrs. Bessie Ambrecht, Mrs. Hazel Fountain and Mrs. Myrtle Cox, Iowa City; Mrs. Eva Walter, Nichols; Mrs. Grace Slaughter, Lone Tree; Mrs. Clara Sparks, Indianapolis and his mother, Mrs. Mary Thomas, Nichols.
