Prof. Hiram Doty, 74, a native of Cedar county, died at his home in Indianola Feb. 15. He had taught at Simpson college 44 years.

Born in Cedar county, he attended high school in Webster City, was graduated from Iowa State University and did graduate work at the University of Chicago.

Prof. Doty, who taught geology at Simpson, was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree by the college in 1957. He was later named professor emeritus.

He is survived by a sister, nieces and nephews.
