Funeral services for Herbert Meyer, 68, were held Dec. 27 at the United Church of Christ in Clarence. Pallbearers were Carl Haesemeyer, Norman Goldsmith, Henry Dirks, Ed Paul and Henry Busching. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery with the Hegarty-Busching post in charge of graveside rites.

Mrs. Irene Meier and Esther Reinking were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Meyer died Dec. 23 in Veterans hospital in Iowa City.

The son of Lonie and Lena Haesemeyer Meyer, he was born on a farm northeast of Stanwood Aug. 23, 1894. He was married to Matilda Englestad Dec. 28, 1928 in Minnesota. About 20 years ago they moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked for Universal Engineering company.

Mr. Meyer enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 15, 1918, as a member of the navy reserve and served until his discharge Sept. 30, 1921.

He was a member of United Church of Christ at Clarence, the Hegarty-Busching post of the American Legion, the Masonic lodge, Iowa Consistory and El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Byron (Myrl) Trimble and a grandson and granddaughter of Van Nuys, Calif.; 3 brothers, Alfred, L. W. and Elmer, Stanwood and 2 sisters, Pauline, Stanwood and Mrs. Jerry Hartog, Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his wife.
