Verna May Hazen was born in Denmark, Iowa, April 22, 1898, the youngest child of Samuel and Ella McCabe Hazen. After graduating from Denmark High School she attended Iowa State College from which she received her B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1920. After graduation she became Jones County Home Demonstration Agent and served in this capacity for two years. Miss Hazen was married to Roy H. Joslin of Anamosa on September 27, 1922. Mr. and Mrs. Joslin had three children, Robert of Clarence, Jeanne, Mrs. Earl Phillips, of Iowa City and Kenneth of Winburn. In 1932 the Joslin's moved from Jones county to a farm in the Clarence Community which has been their home ever since.

Mrs. Joslin found many ways to serve her community. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and held several offices in the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was selected as one of the first five Iowa Master Farm Homemakers. Mrs. Joslin was a member of many organizations including Farm Bureau Women's work, Wednesday Literary Club, Order of Eastern Star and American Association of University Women.

Mrs. Joslin was preceeded in death by a sister, Pearl and a granddaughter, Carol. She is survived by her husband, 3 children, a brother Hervey E. Hazen of Des Moines, a sister, Grace, Mrs. Nels Lund of Ankeny and a brother Glen Hazen of Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Clarence on Sunday, January 7th, 1962 at 2 p.m. with Rev. E. G. Steinman in charge. The music was furnished by the organist, Sally Weatherwax. In charge of the many beautiful floral tributes were Mrs. James Sawyer and Mrs. Roland Mingst. The pallbearers were Earl Elijah, Robert Elijah, Elmer Sawyer, Warren Claney, James Sawyer and Marvin Schilling.

Interment was made in the Clarence Cemetery.
