28 December 1961 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for James Herbert Thurston, 63, were held at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home Dec. 24 with the Rev. A. C. Long in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were 6 nephews, Donald Simmons, Henry Wiskus Jr., Jack Robinson, Alva Garmon and Leslie and Kenneth Wagner. Mrs. Norwin Martens and Mrs. Lorna Merlo were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Thurston died Dec. 22 at his home in Tipton. He had been in failing health for several years.

The son of Joseph and Cordelia Short Thurston, he was born Aug. 19, 1898 at Edwards, Mo. He was married to Grace Wagner July 8, 1925 at Tipton. He was a retired cemetery sexton and spent most of his life in the Tipton area.

He is survived by his wife, 6 sons, Earl, James and Marvin Dean, Tipton; Fred, Wilton Junction; Robert, Springville; Albert, Stanwood and Thomas Lee, Davenport; 3 daughters, Mrs. Charley (Bonnie) Moffit, Stanwood; Mrs. Peggy Swafford, and Mrs. Don (Betty) Cozad, both of Tipton; 12 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Goldie Mays, Harrisonville, Mo. and Mrs. Leah Jones, Woodward, Okla.

He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a twin brother, Sam.
