Funeral services for Forest (Hap) Hougland, 63, were held Dec. 12 at the Sheets and Dahn Funeral home in Tipton with the Rev. Ralph Adamson in charge. Pallbearers were Edward Daufeldt, Harry Yerington, Russell Willer, Charles Paulson, Joe Conway and Donald Rodgers. Burial was in Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Wendell Willer was vocalist and Mrs. Irma Crawford organist. Mrs. Palmer Holden, Mrs. Katherine Carlisle and Mr. and Mrs. Harley Moreland were in charge of flowers.

Hougland died Dec. 10 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids following surgery. He had been in ill health for several weeks and returned to the hospital a few days before his death.

He was born in Salem, Ind., July 9, 1897 and had made his home in Tipton for 47 years.

He was married to Thelma Elsie Highly April 10, 1930. She died Dec. 17, 1955. He was married to Mrs. Eva Bishop in Cedar Rapids Aug. 25, 1957.

Hougland was a Cedar county road maintenance worker for 31 years. He retired this fall. He was a lifelong member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and held several offices. He was also a member of the Tipton fire department for many years and was an honorary fireman.

He was active in politics in Cedar county and was a Democratic candidate for supervisor several times. He was also a candidate for the Tipton city council in the November election.

He is survived by his wife, 3 brothers, Orville and Seneth, Salem, Ind. and Ray, Pekin, Ind.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Stell Marshall, Louisville, Ky. and Mrs. Leva Colglasier, Salem, Ind.; 8 nieces and nephews, 3 stepchildren, Mrs. Richard Eidel, Marion; Mrs. Hubert Walker, Springville and George Bishop, Cedar Falls, and 11 step-grandchildren.
