Charles J. Swart, 76, retired farmer, died suddenly at 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at the home of his son, Cecil, at West Liberty.

He was born March 16, 1885, in Cedar county, the son of Henry and Anne Street Swart. He had farmed in Cedar and Muscatine counties.

Mr. Swart was married to Edna Jackson in February, 1908. She preceded him in death in August, 1954.

He was a member of the Methodist church of Springdale, and the Masonic lodge.

Surviving are 2 sons, Cecil, West Liberty, and Albert, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Rena Jackson of Eugene, Ore.; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services were Oct. 11 at the Springdale Methodist church, the Rev. Charles Haigh of West Branch, officiating. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery in West Liberty.
