Funeral services for Ross J. Stratton 82, co-founder of the Stratton Plumbing and Heating company in West Branch were held Sept. 5, with the Rev. Charles Haigh in charge. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

He died Sept. 3 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness.

Mr. Stratton came to West Branch when he was 10 years old and graduated from the West Branch high school. He attended Highland Park college in Des Moines.

The son of John and Priscilla Bailey Stratton, he was born Sept. 15, 1878 at Coal Creek. He was married to Linda Heacock in 1904. She died 2 years later. He was married to Helen McKean in December, 1909. She died in 1920.

He and his brother, Charles, founded the plumbing and heating company.

He was instrumental in organizing the library and served as the first librarian. A life member of the Methodist church, he was a trustee at the time of his death. He was for many years a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was treasurer of the West Branch Salvation Army chapter.

Survivors include a son, John, West Branch; 2 daughters, Mrs. Margaret Morris, Milwaukee, Wis. and Mrs. Ruth Vince, Rockford, Ill., and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother and a sister.
