Carl P. Steffens, 85, died Aug. 23 at Mt. Pleasant after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 4, 1876, in Germany, and was the son of Henry and Doris Ruwe Steffen. A resident of Wilton Junction for 20 years, he came to America when he was 16 years old.

He married Elvina Gottschalk in Lowden. She preceded him in death in December, 1918. On Jan. 14, 1931, he married Marie B. Hansen in Wilton Junction, who still survives.

Mr. Steffens, a member of the Zion Lutheran church, was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include his widow; 3 daughters, Mrs. Lester (Mildred) Hatfield, Cordova, Ill., Mrs. True (Esther) McAllister, Princeton, and Mrs. Ted (Norma) Soppeland, Ft. Dodge; a sister, Mrs. Meta Klinkkammer, Stanwood; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, 2 sisters and a daughter.

Funeral services were held Aug. 25 in Wilton Junction. The Rev. John B. Nieman officiated. Burial was at the Oakdale cemetery, Wilton Junction.
