OBITUARY
Marlin Raymond Hillyer, 78, of Bennett, passed into eternity on Monday, November 11, 2019 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Private services will be held on Friday, November 15th at 10:00 AM at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with Rev Ronald Lashmit officiating. Public graveside committal services with full military honors will be held Friday at 11:00 AM, Inland Cemetery, Bennett. A public gathering of family and friends with potluck will be held in the Bennett American Legion Building following the graveside services. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established in his honor and may be directed to Marlin’s family.

Marlin was born on August 16, 1941 in Cedar County, Iowa around the Lowden area. He was the son of Raymond William and Esther Martha Sieck Hillyer. He attended high school in Bennett and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for 4 years. Marlin was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Horstmann on April 15, 1961 in Davenport, Iowa. Marlin was a truck driver all of this life logging over 3 million accident free miles. Marlin was a member of the Bennett and Durant American Legions; the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 2537), a member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge, a past member of the Tipton Moose, a current member of the Teamsters Local and presently served as the commissioner of the Cedar County Veterans Commission.

Marlin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia, of Bennett, Iowa; his son, David (Jeannie) Hillyer of Bennett, Iowa; daughters, Deanna (Roger) Welch of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Doreena Crock (Craig) of Tipton, Iowa, Deborah (Tony) Howell of Muscatine, Iowa;

He was preceded in death by his parents (Raymond and Esther Hillyer), Brother, Don Hillyer and his son-in-law, Dick Crock.
