Last rites were held July 17 in Tipton for Lester H. Gardner, 73, who died July 14 at the home of his son, Claire Gardner of Tipton.

Lester Harrison Gardner, the son of Charles and Phoebe Ballou Gardner, was born in Jones county, south of Olin, May 10, 1888. He received his education in the Olin school.

He was married to Katherine Lucille Peckosh Feb. 20, 1912. Mrs. Gardner preceded him in death in July, 1950. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, a daughter, Katherine Lucille, who died in infancy, a sister and an infant great-granddaughter.

Gordon Smith officiated at the services. Burial was in the Olin cemetery. Pallbearers were Chalmer Kelly, Henry Hardin, Donovan Campbell, Jake Lamp, Herbert Sheetz and Carl Frederick.

Survivors include the son, Claire; 2 daughters, Mrs. Frank (Anna) Stepanek, West Branch and Mrs. Orville (Neva) Emerick, Muscatine; 2 brothers, Herbert, Mt. Vernon and Frank, Cedar Rapids and one sister, Emila Crawford, Delmar.
