Margaret May Ford, a teacher for nearly a half century and principal and teacher in the Fairfield schools for 26 years, died Sept. 12 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following an illness of several months.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home, with the Rev. Lamont C. Smith in charge. Burial was in Masonic cemetery.

Miss Ford, the eldest daughter of William A. and Elizabeth Ford, was born on a farm east of Tipton Dec. 19, 1887. She grew to womanhood and was educated in Cedar county, starting her teaching career in Cedar county in 1906.

In 1916 she moved with her mother and brother to Jefferson county where she taught for three years in the rural schools, and 26 years as elementary principal and grade teacher in the Fairfield public school.

All her teaching was done in Iowa, with the exception of one year when she taught in the elementary school at Bliss, Idaho. For the past four years she taught in the Grandview Consolidated school and had signed her contract for a fifth year when ill health compelled her to resign.

She is survived by a brother, N. L. Ford, Tipton, two nieces, Mrs. Sleanor Martin and Mrs. Grace Johnston, Bennett. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

She received her teachers training at Cornell college, Coe college, Iowa State Teachers college and Parsons college. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary education society.

She was a member of the Methodist church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
