Claus Lamaack, 84, a resident of Durant for 35 years, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at University hospitals, Iowa City, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Frick funeral home. Burial will be in the Durant cemetery.

Born Aug. 21, 1872, in Germany, Mr. Lamaack came to this country with his parents when 9 years of age, directly to Durant.

He married Gertrude Lafrenz Aug. 19, 1893, in Davenport. The couple farmed near Bennett until their retirement in 1921. Mrs. Lamaack died in 1931.

Survivors are two sons, William, Davenport, and Louis, Bennett; a daughter, Mrs. John Rohwedder, Stockton; a step-son, Claus Lafrenz, Moose Lake, Minn.; three brothers, Hugo, Durant; Herman, Windom, Minn., and Henry, Heron Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
