5 June 1891 - Clarence Sun

John D. Shearer died at his home in Tipton May 30th, 1891, aged 64 years, 3 months and 0 days. The funeral occurred Monday and was under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, in accordance with the wish of the deceased. There was a large attendance, a number of the Masons going from this place to pay their tribute of respect to an old and honored member. Deceased was perhaps as well known as any person in the county, having been Sheriff from 1865 to 1876 and since that time has served as deputy Clerk and later as Clerk of the Courts. He was a generous, kind hearted man, a friend to many in sore time of need, and will be mourned by all. He was a member of the A.O.U.W., which order also turned out in regalia to attend the funeral. The burial occurred at the Masonic cemetery, with the beautiful and impressive Masonic service.
