Funeral services for William Cullen Muirhead, 63, were held Saturday at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home. The Rev. Raymon Ferguson was in charge of services. There were brief Masonic services by Cedar Lodge No. 11, A.F. and A.M. An honor guard of the Garey Whalen post of the American Legion took part in the services. Burial was at Cedar Memorial Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

William Cullen Muirhead, son of James and Catherine Spence Muirhead, was born at Crete, Ill., Dec. 7, 1892, and died at Veterans hospital in Iowa City Feb. 16. He was the oldest of a family of nine children.

Aug. 15, 1917, he was united in marriage to Lillian Urutha Erikson, at Joliet, Ill. To this union four daughters were born: Mrs. Dale (Lois) Warmuth, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Warren (June) Werling, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. George (Marian) Thordsen, Tipton, and Mrs. Harlen (Norma) Siemsen, Bennett.

After working in Illinois for a number of years, he and his family moved to Tipton where he was engaged in farming for 19 years. For 10 years prior to his illness he was employed by the Cedar county maintenance department.

He was baptized in the Crete Congregational church, Crete, Ill. In 1928, during the pastorate of the Rev. Harry Posten, he became a member of First Presbyterian church, Tipton. He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 11, A.F. and A.M. He was also a member and past commander of Garey-Whalen Post 123 of the American Legion.

Surviving besides his wife and four daughters, are two brothers; Francis G. and J. Steen Muirhead, of Crete, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Ray Adams, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Wallace Olsen, Crete, Ill.; Mrs. Martin Paape and Jeannie Muirhead, Steger, Ill. Also nine grandchildren; Wayne and Avis Warmuth; Jack, Jill, Joe and Jeff Werling; Karla Sue Thordsen, and Kevin and Kathy Siemsen.
