Funeral services for Thomas A. Evans, 96, oldest resident of West Branch, were held Monday in Iowa City. The Rev. Taylor Guthrie, West Branch, officiated. Burial was in the Mantorville, Minn. cemetery.

Mr. Evans died at his home in West Branch Friday.

He was born near Newport in Johnson county Dec. 24, 1859, a son of Thomas A. and Nancy McAdams Evans. He was reared in that community and in 1880 was married to Julia Sponey.

The couple established their home on a farm near Newport where they lived until 1896 when they moved to West Branch. In 1913 they moved to Kasson, Minn., and in 1940 he returned to West Branch.

Survivors include one daughter, Grace, and a son, Harry B., both of West Branch.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Fred, both of whom died in 1938. Mr. Evans was the last of seven sons.
