9 February 1956 - The Tipton Conservative

A car-truck crash near Atlanta, Ga., early Monday morning took the life of Mrs. Eugene (Nancy) Linn, 24, and her son, David Joel, 2.

Seriously injured in the accident that claimed the life of his daughter and his grandson, was Frank L. Norris, 60.

David, who would have been 3 March 3, was instantly killed. Mrs. Linn died in an Atlanta hospital about 11 p.m. Monday.

Norris received a broken arm, three broken ribs, a brain concussion and a bruised kidney. He is in the Crawford A. Long hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral services for Mrs. Linn and her son will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Tipton Bible church. Pastor Kenneth Carroll will be in charge of services. Burial will be in the Pedee cemetery.

Their bodies will arrive in Tipton about 8 p.m. today and will be at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home.

Norris will probably be in the Atlanta hospital for several weeks. Mrs. Norris and their daughter, Sue, are with him.

Norris, his daughter and his grandson, left Tipton Friday afternoon on their way to Tampa, Fla. Mrs. Norris had gone to Tampa a month earlier to be with her father, R. H. Hauch, 90, who is recuperating following major surgery at a Tampa hospital.

The three spent Friday night at Wheaton, Ill., where Eugene Linn is a ministerial student. Saturday they drove to Frankford, Ind., where they spent the night and Sunday morning with Norris' mother, Mrs. H. L. Norris.

Sunday afternoon the three drove to Chattanooga, Tenn., where they spent the night.

Early Monday morning they started for Tampa.

Outside of Atlanta Norris stopped for gas. The station attendant told them of a shortcut that would avoid the congestion of the main highway south of Atlanta.

Norris was driving when his car collided with a semi-trailer truck at the intersection of highways 138 and 155, about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta.

The Norris car was completely wrecked. Norris was knocked out in the crash and did not regain consciousness until several hours later in the Atlanta hospital. He asked the hospital authorities to notify his wife in Tampa.

Mrs. Norris flew to Atlanta from Tampa. Linn was notified Monday afternoon and also flew to Atlanta from Illinois.

Nancy Norris was born May 22, 1931, at Cedar Rapids. She was graduated from the Tipton high school in 1949 and attended Iowa State Teachers college, Asbury college at Asbury, Ky., and Wheaton college.

April 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Eugene Linn.

She is survived by her parents, her husband, a brother, Frank Norris Jr., Tipton; three sisters, Mrs. Beryl (Mary) Barkman, Galesburg, Ill.; Mrs. David (Betty) Mort, Waukesha, Wis., and Cora Sue, Tipton.

David Joel Linn was born March 3, 1953, at Wheaton, Ill.

He is survived by his father, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Norris, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Linn, Atalissa.
