Last rites for Vernon Alfred Paustian, 34, were held Tuesday at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home with the Rev. Arthur R. Stratemeyer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

The son of Alfred and Elvira Ihms Paustian, he was born March 24, 1923, in Muscatine county. He graduated from Tipton high school in 1941 and attended Tipton Junior college and Iowa State college.

While in high school he was very active in the Future Farmers of America. In 1940 he won the Iowa High School Agricultural Congress Merit award and the Iowa Farmer degree. In 1942 he was chosen vice-president of the southeast district, in 1943 was state reporter, and in 1944 he became state president.

He took part in many judging contests and his main farming interests were in the raising of Duroc hogs and Polled Shorthorn cattle. He was married to Irene Edler in Tipton Aug. 15, 1948. They were the parents of two children Susan Elaine and Allen Edward.

He is survived by his wife, children, parents, and a sister, Mae, of Tipton.
