Last rites for Mrs. Lydia Belle Heald, 83, West Branch, who died Sunday evening at Mercy hospital in Iowa City of complications from a stroke suffered earlier in the week, were held Wednesday at the Friends Meeting house in West Branch.

Burial was in Hickory Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Heald was born April 28, 1874, on a farm near West Branch, the daughter of Pearson and Sarah Walker Thomas.

She was a lifelong resident of the community, taking an active part in all social affairs of her neighborhood. She was graduated from the Scattergood school in 1896. She was married on her birthday, April 28, 1921, to Lawrence W. Heald. They engaged in farming until retiring in West Branch in 1941, where they lived until his death July 10, 1949. Since then she and her sister, Malissa Fawcett, have had their home together.

Mrs. Heald was a member of the Friends meeting, the Priscilla club and the Centerdale Woman's club, always interested and taking her share of the duties these affiliations entailed.

She is survived by one sister, Malissa Fawcett, one brother, Walter I. Thomas, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, two sisters and her husband had preceded her in death.
