Virgil Spear, 33, of Cedar Rapids, who with his wife and two children, Sylvia, 11, and Patricia, 9, died in an auto accident Sunday, was a native of Cedar county.

Spear and his daughters were burned to death near Elmhurst, Ill., as a result of a three-car crash. Mrs. Spear died the next day.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spear, he was born northwest of Tipton Oct. 27, 1923, and moved to Cedar Rapids as a child. He was graduated from Franklin high school in 1939. He is survived by his parents, a brother, Wilmer, of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Mrs. Dayton Rothrock, of McPherson, Kan.
