Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Spear, 78, were held Monday at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home with the Rev. A. C. Long in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Spear died Friday in Tipton, where she had been a resident for 35 years.

Martha Mattie Davis, daughter of James and Anna Kelsey Davis, was born June 13, 1879, on a farm a mile south of Clarence, the fifth child in a family of eight.

She was educated in the rural school and was married to Thomas Spear Jan. 22, 1896. They farmed a half mile west of Harmony Point until 1922 when they moved to Tipton.

Mrs. Spear was the last surviving charter member of the Harmony Point Aid society.

She is survived by two children, Mrs. Elizabeth Kelly, Clarence, and Harry, Tipton, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a brother, William Davis, Tipton. She was preceded in death by her husband six years ago.
