Dr. William Jacob Miller, 88, retired Wilton Junction physician, was killed when struck by a car Tuesday as he crossed Highway 38, five miles south of Wilton Junction.

The doctor, who lived with his son-in-law, Lawrence Harris, was crossing to the mailbox when struck by a car driven by Frederick Graham, Muscatine.

Muscatine County Coroner R. O. Figg said an inquest would be held Thursday. Miller died of a skull fracture.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wilton Junction, with the Rev. Carl Orr officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery, Wilton Junction.

Dr. Miller was born May 15, 1868, in Cedar county and was a lifelong resident of the Wilton Junction area.

He married Nellie Lang in April 1907 at Wilton Junction. He graduated from Valparaiso University and Keokuk Medical college in 1894 and practiced for 20 years in Wilton Junction. Dr. Miler was a charter member of the Muscatine County Medical association.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Harris, Wilton Junction, and a sister, Mrs. Vera Garvin, Long Beach, Calif.; and one grandchild.
