Mrs. Lura B. Cariens, 81, died at an Iowa City nursing home Saturday afternoon, after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. L. E. Bauman, with burial in the West Branch cemetery.

She was born in Johnsonville, Ill., Aug. 21, 1875, the daughter of Jacob and Delia Kelly Curry. She was married at Johnsonville to Grant Cariens, Aug. 30, 1893. The family moved to West Branch in 1913 and this has since been her home.

Mr. and Mrs. Cariens were the parents of nine children. Her husband, one daughter, and two sons preceded her in death. She is survived by six children: Mrs. Lillie Roe, Mrs. Alice Yavorsky, and Grant Cariens, Iowa City; Leo, Bloomfield, and Mildred Parry and Milton Cariens, West Branch. Also one brother, E. A. Curry, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Haught, Cisne, Ill., and eleven grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Cariens was a member of the Methodist church, the W.S.C.S., the American Legion Auxiliary, the Amvet Auxiliary, and the Birthday club.
