Mrs. Elma Buzzard Benson, Cedar Rapids, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Buzzard, pioneer residents of Bennett, died Saturday in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a long illness.

Born in Bennett May 2, 1886, she spent her early girlhood here. She was educated in the Bennett public school and was graduated from Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls. Her parents came to Bennett with the starting of the town and ran a dry goods, grocery, and shoe store. Her father was also the Bennett postmaster for a number of years.

After she was grown, she moved with her parents to Davenport where she worked as bookkeeper in her father's wholesale fruit business, the Tri-City Fruit and Commission company and later, for his successor, the Nash Finch company.

She became an active member of St. John's Methodist church of Davenport. Jan. 25 she was married to Oscar L. Benson of Davenport who died in 1934.

She moved to Cedar Rapids 11 years ago and has lived at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Richard Buresh.

Besides Mrs. Buresh, surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. James Drew, Cedar Rapids; a son, Jack Benson, Marshalltown; eight grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Dulany of LaJolla, Calif., Mrs. Edith Long of Miami Shores, Fla., and Mrs. Lucile Flodin, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held Monday in both Cedar Rapids and Davenport, with burial in the family plot at Oakdale cemetery, Davenport.
