Mary Dawson, 80, lifelong resident of the West Branch community, died Feb. 5 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Albert Tribon, in Independence. Miss Dawson was born April 5, 1876, the daughter of Joseph and Lydia Rummells Dawson. She was graduated from the West Branch school in 1894 and taught for some time in the rural schools of Johnson county.

She was a long-time member of the Friends church and its auxiliary organizations. This interest continued at her home and at Independence where, since the death of her parents, she had spent the winter months. She had been ill for three months. She is survived by one sister, Ruth Tribon, and a brother-in-law, Dr. Albert Tribon.

Funeral services were held Friday in the West Branch Friends church, conducted by the Rev. Taylor Guthrie, with burial in the North Prairie cemetery, near West Liberty.
