Funeral services were held Sept. 3 in Mechanicsville for George William Graham, 65, who was fatally injured in a fall at his home Sept. 1
Mr. Graham had been working on the roof of his front porch and was climbing down from the roof when the ladder broke beneath him and he fell, striking his head on a concrete step.
He was administered oxygen by the Mechanicsville fire department's resuscitator for about a half hour and it was believed that his condition was improved. He was rushed to an Iowa City hospital by Horner's ambulance, but died shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
Mr. Graham was born July 27, 1894, at Oldfield (now Farrar) son of John K. and Pearlina Jane Woods Graham. He came to Mechanicsville in March 1934 and lived on his farm southwest of town until Dec. 1947 when he moved into town.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three children.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Ralph, Mechanicsville; and a daughter Marjorie Gardner of Maxwell. Also surviving are 2 step-daughters, Celeste Williams, Bondurant, and Flossie VanCamp, Oelwein; a sister, Edna Gifford, Nevada; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Forrest Moffit, Harry Jackson, James C. Houle, Joseph Paidar, Clarence Carbee and Chris Peterson.
Honorary pallbearers were Everett Ferguson, Raymond Puffer, Lee Brock and Brett Mathews.
Interment was in Graham cemetery in Jasper county.
