12 February 1959 - The Tipton Conservative

Chris Angerer, 78, of near Wilton Junction, was fatally injured last Friday when his car collided with the Rock Island Lines Cornbelt Rocket about two miles west of Wilton Junction.

Highway Patrolman William Shank of Muscatine said Angerer was driving south on a gravel road and apparently failed to see the east-bound train.

His car struck the second diesel unit of the locomotive. The impact of the crash tossed the driver out of the car, but the wreckage of the vehicle was thrown along the track.

Angerer, whose home is about one-half mile from the scene, was alone at the time of the crash.

He was taken to Muscatine General hospital where he died about 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Angerer were held Monday at St. Mary's church in Wilton Junction with burial in the Wilton Junction cemetery.

Mr. Angerer was born April 11, 1880, at Wilton Junction and was a life resident of the community. His marriage to Anna L. Kirsch took place Oct. 14, 1950, at St. Mary's church. He was a member of St. Mary's church and of the Holy Name society of that church. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Frank L., Des Moines; one daughter, Mrs. Donald Lemley, Cantril; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Wheeler Ingham, Chase, Kan., Mrs. Byron Lyons, St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Herbert Callison, Peru, and Mrs. George Kondes, Des Moines; one brother, George Angerer, in California; two sisters, Sister Joseph, at the Carmelite Monastery, Bettendorf, and Mrs. Emma Foley, Belle Plaine.
