Mrs. Alice Sayles, 78, lifelong resident of West Branch, died March 30 at Friendship Haven, Methodist home at Fort Dodge. She was born May 1, 1880, at Barnesville, Ohio, the daughter of Asa and Sarah Bailey Parry. In 1907 she was married at Cedar Rapids to Alpheus Clinton Sayles, who died in 1946.
She was graduated from the West Branch school in 1898 and attended the University of Iowa, then taught school for several years at Wellman and West Branch.
She was a member of the West Branch Methodist church and was active in W.S.C.S. and Sunday school. She had made her home at Friendship Haven since 1950.
Surviving are 2 sons, Oliver and Ross Sayles, West Branch, and 3 daughters, Mrs. Florence Groene, San Luis Obispo, Calif., Mrs. Isabelle Swanson, Niles, Mich., and Mrs. Linna Keever, Rock Island, Ill. One stepdaughter, Mrs. Margaret Kiefer, Jesup also survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one stepson.
Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church at West Branch at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. L. E. Bauman officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
