Last rites were held Saturday at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home for Mayme Walters, 63, Tipton librarian for 43 years. The Rev. Howard Dukelow officiated. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mayme Grace Walters, daughter of Frank and Jennie Strauser Walters, was born in Buchanan Nov. 17, 1894. She was graduated from the Tipton school in 1913 and received her librarian training at the University of Iowa. She also studied organ for several years at Cornell college and for many years was organist at the Presbyterian church.

From 1913 to 1919 she was assistant librarian in Tipton. In 1920 she was assistant librarian in the Des Moines public library, returning to Tipton as head librarian.

She served the Tipton library for a total of 43 years and was honored at an open house at the library March 16. Her years of service made her one of the best known members of the community and, under her direction, Tipton has maintained one of the finest small libraries in the state.

Miss Walters was a member of P.E.O. and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by several cousins.
