Eugene A. Gray, 67, West Branch insurance man, died Oct. 2 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City. He had suffered a stroke early Sept. 29 after which he was moved to the hospital.

He was born in Iowa township Oct. 20, 1891, the son of J. W. and Laura Little Gray and came to West Branch in 1924. He was married to Jean Mize at Tipton Feb. 10, 1927.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, a charter member of the American Legion, to which he was given a life membership for devoted services, and he was affiliated with the Methodist church. He was prominent in business and community circles. For many years he was especially interested in the fitting observance of Memorial day, and was prominent in arranging programs for this and other patriotic and commemorative ceremonies.

He was secretary of the West Branch school board for 17 years and secretary of the Springdale Mutual Insurance company.

He is survived by his wife and one brother, Robert L. Gray of West Branch.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. L. E. Bauman, with burial in the West Branch cemetery.
