Mrs. Walter M. Pownall, 93, a former resident of the Centerdale area, died Monday at University hospital in Iowa City where she had been a patient for 3 weeks.

Services and burial will be at West Branch.

The former Catharine Hartley was born Nov. 19, 1865, at Bloomington, Ill., moving to Iowa with her family in 1862.

Her marriage to Walter Pownall took place in 1885, and the couple resided on a farm near Centerdale until his death in 1933, after which Mrs. Pownall made her home in Cedar Rapids.

She is survived by a son, Prof. Fred M. Pownall, Iowa City; 2 daughters, Eleanor and Bertha Pownall, Cedar Rapids; 2 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. E. F. Wickham, Iowa City, and Mrs. Roy P. Clark, Los Angeles, Calif.
